On 31 October 2018 the Queensland Government tabled the Human Rights Bill 2018 (‘the Bill’).

The Bill is the response to almost 4 years of campaigning by over 40 community organisations and thousands of Queenslanders.

The Bill will lead to a fairer and more equal state. It protects the values we all hold dear - things like our right to education and health and our freedom of movement, expression and association. The Bill has been referred to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee (‘the Committee’). The Committee has asked for feedback about the Bill.

This is your chance to have your say. You can let the Committee know that you support the Bill, that it will mean that when people are vulnerable they will be treated with dignity and respect and that you want the Bill to be enforceable (see our briefing note for information about how we think the Bill could be improved)

We have created a draft email that you can send to the Committee. We strongly suggest that you add your own story and individual reasons for supporting the Human Rights bill. The more personalised and individual your response is, the more powerful it will be, and the greater the chance we'll have of passing the best Human Rights Bill.

If you like you can read our briefing note to get more tips on how the bill can be improved.
